As a member of the robotics club at our school, I created robots to participate in the Korea Robot Championship, which was held from January to August 2023. Part of the programming team, I programmed the foundation as well as the advanced movements of our robot. For example, when working on the mechanical wheel, we went to great lengths to understand the intricacies of the robot’s arm by building it ourselves. In addition, I was a prominent participant in the engineering team when creating the robots, which required further teamwork and collective brainstorming.

During the competition, I observed how other teams worldwide used different strategies to win, despite the similarities of the tasks. I gained inspiration and quickly learned how to handle unexpected situations. For example, after the first match, our robot unexpectedly malfunctioned, forcing me to think on my feet and fix the situation in under 10 minutes. This required quick decision-making, and I learned the importance of preparation for real-life scenarios.

While our final match was disappointing, as an opposing team hacked our robots to delete our code, each experience came as a learning opportunity to find areas of improvement for myself and my team.
