Departement Head: Yearbook Academy (2020-2024)

Grade 8 9 10 11 12

Initially joining the Yearbook Academy Club in 8th grade, I was drawn in due to my passion for creating designs using Photoshop and Illustrator. Every year, we choose the theme of the yearbook and create an annual school yearbook, which is published for the entire school. The club consists of 20 students and is divided into two teams: the photo team and the design team. Part of the design team, my members and I are responsible for creating the layout, inserting the photos into the yearbook, and adding in the final touches that complete the collection of memories for the year. While a seemingly simple job, I have created over 100 pages of the yearbook using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Each of my designs are shared with my team and our collaboration brings each page to life.

In my sophomore year, I took on the role of the Head of Design. As the leader of my design team, I took on the responsibility of planning each year’s timeline, delegating tasks to each member, tracking the progress of members' work, and guiding the members to finish their work on time. During the initial creation process, I assisted my team members in creating templates. I also took on the job of presenting the yearbook’s theme while communicating with the school faculty to confirm funding for printing as well as accuracy. To ensure a smooth transition for newer students, I also organized design workshops to teach the fundamentals of design and the usage of Adobe Creative Cloud.

In this role, I have come to understand the importance of responsibility, as the entire school yearbook depends on our work. Additionally, I have realized the challenges of leading a large group of almost 20 members. Despite these difficulties, I have developed systems to lead them effectively, enabling us to finish the yearbook on time. This role has not only helped me grow as a better designer but also as a responsible and effective leader.
